Do Diet Pills Work?
By King Conall
Perhaps close to a third of the population in North America today is either obese or at risk of becoming overweight. That might as well explain why weight loss products including diet pills are a multi-billion dollar industry.
Many people are not keen to make lifestyle changes that can help them lose weight and are therefore trying almost any product that promises to magically help burn fat or suppress appetite.
While some weight loss diet pills may actually work to some extent, there are many other products that haven’t been proven to be effective despite their claims.
Probably you adhere to some exercise and diet regimens that have already yielded some great results.
However, you may not yet be there and are therefore seeking the option that would help you lose the last stubborn fat.
A cosmetic surgical procedure may not be something you are contemplating at the moment, so you may settle for the convenience of diet pills.
But do those weight loss pills really work?
Here Are Some Of The Common Types Of Diet Pills And How They Work
Pills that fall in this category usually contain ingredients such as caffeine and sometimes green tea extract. A single pill may contain caffeine equivalent to what you might get from 3 cups of coffee.
Caffeine has its own benefits related to burning fat and increasing metabolism, but it is also going to make your heart race.
Stimulants containing green tea extract will have it indicated as Camellia sinensis.
If you want to kill your hunger pangs, you will be advised to use appetite suppressants. That is supposed to significantly reduce your daily intake of calories so that your body can burn what it has already kept in store.
That perfectly makes a lot of sense and many people are using such diet pills.
However, the pills mainly contain an ingredient obtained from an African plant known as hoodia and research so far hasn’t proven its effectiveness or even the safety.
Psyllium and green tea extracts are also contained in the pills.
My advice is do your homework!
If you are considering trying any of the diet pills available out there...
The most important thing is to do your homework.
Some manufacturers or marketers will make big claims about their products being able to help you achieve your weight loss goals in no time.
If their claims aren’t backed by any scientific research or facts that can be proven...
Do not buy the hope they sell.
It is absolutely important to understand that indeed there isn’t a magic bullet for weight loss.
Today you will easily find many diet pills in your local drugstores, supermarket, and even more online.
Why should you be careful?
Many of the diet pills available in the market today contain multiple ingredients whose combined effect on the human body may not be fully known.
While you can still achieve some benefits with the use of some diet pills, you may not be aware of many side-effects which can sometimes be life threatening.
The side-effects may remain unknown if there is limited or no research.
Some people might be at a high risk especially if they have existing medical conditions for which they have certain medications prescribed.
Consult your doctor
If you decide to try out any diet pill to see if you can successfully lose weight..
I highly recommend you seek your doctor’s opinion.
Your doctor has a better understanding of the ingredients found in the diet pills.
Knowing your current state of health and any prescribed drugs you may be taking, the doctor is in a position to give you the best advice.
The doctor may recommend some of the diet pills and advise you how to use them or mention any side effects you should watch out for and what to do in case you experience any.
Your doctor can therefore help you to practically achieve your weight loss goals without risking your health.
Would I recommend taking diet pills for weight loss?
The problem with these diet pills is the psychological effect it has.
Think of it for a sec, imagine you find something at the store and the label states that it will help you lose weight in 3 days…
What will happen is that your brain will tell you that dieting or exercising isn't necessary anymore since the pill that you found at the store will help you lose weight.
In the long run, you will be dependent on these pills which most of the time doesn’t give you the results that you want.
Therefore, you will continue to seek for the next best “magic pill” in the market and the cycle goes on and on instead of exercising and fixing your diet.
